Rhinoceros lacquer, also referred to as tiger skin lacquer or Western skin lacquer, is a traditional Chinese lacquer technique with a history spanning thousands of years. It flourished during the Tang and Song dynasties, though its origins date back even further. The intricate patterns created through this process depend on the natural variations in surface wrinkling and the height of dot patterns, making it an ancient and highly complex handicraft.
